Myopia Control
At David H Myers Opticians we take pride in offering our patients the very best products to suit their optical needs. If your child is short-sighted, we may be able to slow down the progression of their myopia by up to 59%.
The last few decades have seen a steady rise in the prevalence of myopia across the globe. A growing body of evidence suggests that behavioral and lifestyle influences (education and environment) along with genetics, are contributing to the myopia ‘epidemic’. Myopia in children increases when parents are myopic and modern lifestyles may influence the development of myopia.

What causes short-sightedness?
Short-sightedness is most commonly caused by the eye growing too long. Certain factors make a child more likely to become short-sighted, such as:
- Family history of short-sightedness
- Not enough time outdoors
- Too much time focusing on nearby objects
The prevalence of myopia is projected to increase from approximately two billion people worldwide in 2010 to almost five billion people in 2050, bringing with it near- and long-term health challenges. Myopia’s link to retinal detachment and myopic macular degeneration is well established. The proportion of young people with myopia in the UK has more than doubled over the last 50 years, in those aged between 10–16 years and children are becoming myopic at a younger age.
Children as young as 8 can successfully wear contact lenses and tell us they
